چکیده

A method to enhance surface plasmon coupled fluorescence (SPCF) from thin copper films using silver islands as an overlayer is presented. Silver islands were deposited onto copper thin films using a wet chemical technique for up to 60 s, which resulted in surface features ranging from randomly sized silver nanoparticles to a silver thin film. Theoretical Fresnel calculations predict the coupling of light to copper thin films with a silver overlayer. SPCF and the free-space emission intensities from Rhodamine B spincoated onto silvered copper were found to be significantly larger than measured from the copper thin

Surface plasmon coupled fluorescence in the ultraviolet and visible spectral regions using zinc thin films.

The use of zinc thin films deposited onto glass supports for surface plasmon coupled fluorescence (SPCF) over a broad 200 nm wavelength range is demonstrated. Fresnel calculations performed in the ultraviolet and visible spectral range are predicted to generate surface plasmon modes in 30 nm zinc thin films. In this spectral range, the extent of coupling of light to zinc thin films was shown to...

Sum-Frequency Generation Spectra of Thin Organic Films on Silver Enhanced Due to Surface Plasmon Excitation

We have studied vibrational spectra of thin films of copper phthalocyanine and fullerene of different thicknesses on silver obtained by a visible-infrared sum-frequency generation (SFG). The free electron laser FELIX was used as a source of broadband infrared and the pulsed Nd:YLF laser system as a source of visible radiation. Excitation of a surface plasmon on silver has allowed to enhance the...

Broad Wavelength Range Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence Using Nickel Nanodeposits

We describe the use of surface-deposited nickel nanoparticles to enhance the fluorescence signatures of fluorophores. Different density Ni nanoparticulate substrates were fabricated and characterized using both AFM and optical absorption techniques. When fluorophores were placed in close proximity to the substrates, metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF) was observed. The wavelength dependence of th...

Metal-enhanced fluorescence from tin nanostructured surfaces

The recent surge in interest in the metal-enhanced fluorescence MEF phenomenon and its numerous applications in the biosciences has fueled research into identifying alternative metals to silver which have desirable properties, such as enhanced emission and fluorophore photostability. In this paper, we subsequently study and reveal that tin nanodeposits are a suitable metal for MEF with an elect...

Indium nanodeposits: A substrate for metal-enhanced fluorescence in the ultraviolet spectral region

We have studied a metallic substrate, composed of indium nanodeposits, for metal-enhanced fluorescence MEF in the ultraviolet UV spectral region. Indium coated slides were prepared using the thermal vapor deposition technique. Theoretical finite difference time domain simulations and experimental studies show that plasmon enhanced absorption and coupled radiation through the scattering componen...
